Pixels To Print: 2022 Pantone Color of the Year

Calling all of our color enthusiasts, artists, marketers, brand strategists, and design nerds alike! It’s the start of another year, which means the beginning of many new things, but one of our favorites continues to be Pantone’s announcement of the official Pantone Color of the Year.

As you may know, every year the Pantone Color Institute and its color experts arrive at a color selection that reflects their thoughtful consideration of worldwide trends, influences, and forecasts. They analyze everything from the entertainment industry to travel, art, design, fashion, lifestyle, technology, pop culture, and more. This selected color is intended to be an influence on that year’s decisions for things like product development and packaging, fashion, industrial design, graphic design, and branding.

This year, the Pantone Color Institute has selected PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri as the Color of the Year!

According to Pantone, this color’s “courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity”, and we couldn’t agree more! Our first thoughts were immediately associated with animated films, fictional dream-like worlds, and uplifting inspiration. The color brings about memories of Dr Seuss films…or perhaps a character from Pixar’s Monster’s Inc.?

Pantone describes in their announcement that Very Peri reflects the transformative times that we are living in. After coming out of an intense period of isolation, our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways. This new color expresses the “fusion of modern life and how color trends in the digital world are being manifested in the physical world and vise versa.” Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute goes on to say that the violet-red undertones combined with the qualities that come with the blue, “displays a spritely, joyous attitude and a dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression”.

Very Peri has both a calm presence and an inspiration quality about it. We definitely agree that it feels encouraging and creative! Combine it with a texture to bring an animated and playful feel to it, or add it to your wardrobe for a fun and inspiring fashion piece for 2022!
